Ħamrun Spartans have reached an agreement to sign Dutch forward Stijn Meijer.
The towering striker agreed personal terms with the Malta champions and is set to attend his first training session under the charge of Giacomo Modica.
The Spartans have been working relentlessly in the past weeks to bolster their squad and identified the forward position as one area they need to improve if they are to keep alive their dream of challenging for a place in the UEFA Conference League Group Phase.
The Malta champions’ top hierarch held talks with Meijer in the past few hours and the 1.95 striker and on Thursday he put pen to paper on a contract before joining Modica’s team for training ahead of next week’s UEFA Europa League clash against Maccabi Tel Aviv, of Israel.
Meijer came through the youth ranks of Utrecht, Twente and Willem II.
At the start of his senior career, Meijer was on the books of Excelsior and FC Dordrecht before heading to Germany in 2023 to join SC Verl for a six-month loan spell.
In December 2023, he moved tothe Middle East to play for Qatari side Al Shanania before returning to European football the following year and join FC Universita Craiova.
In his career, Meijer played 198 matches and scored 73 goals.
