Ħamrun Spartans will host Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the third qualifying of the Europa League at the Tony Bezzina Stadium in Paola, instead of the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali.

Sources close to the Malta champions confirmed to the Times of Malta that the UEFA first-leg tie had to be relocated due to the poor condition of the National Stadium pitch.

The venue change will likely affect ticket availability, as the Tony Bezzina Stadium has a smaller capacity.

It recently hosted Hibernians’ UEFA Conference League second qualifying round tie against Spartak Trnava last week.

In addition, the Times of Malta spoke to Israeli media, who indicated that no Maccabi Tel-Aviv supporters are expected to travel to Malta for the match.

At present, there is no demand for flights from Tel-Aviv, and the club is not selling tickets for away fans, the Israeli media said.

Ħamrun Spartans are preparing for a crucial tie, knowing that progression from this round guarantees a place in the UEFA Conference League League Phase.

Meanwhile, the National Stadium is expected to host the opening matches of the 2025/2026 YoHealth Malta Premier, with Valletta facing Birkirkara in the season’s curtain-raiser in less than two weeks, on August 16.
