Watch: Teddy Teuma scores brilliant goal in Reims’ Japan friendly

Malta international midfielder Teddy Teuma delivered a standout performance in Stade Reims’ final pre-season friendly, scoring a sensational goal to help the French side claim a 2-1 victory over J-League club Gamba Osaka.

The match concluded Reims’ summer tour of Japan as they gear up for life in Ligue 2, following relegation from France’s top flight last season.

Despite the club’s demotion, Teuma retained his number 10 shirt. However, he was not wearing the captain’s armband during this encounter, despite having been appointed club captain last season.

The Maltese midfielder scored the winner with a brilliant strike from the edge of the penalty box, midway through the second half.

Teuma’s future at the club had been under speculation during the summer, especially following a reported fallout with last season’s coach. However, Reims have now appointed Karel Geraerts – Teuma’s former coach at Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise and this appointment has seemingly revitalized Teuma’s role within the squad.

The Ligue 2 campaign begins for Stade Reims on Monday, August 11, when they face Amiens SC in their opening fixture.

Good goal but it’s not a “long-range goal”, nor “from distance”. It’s a routine shot from inside the box which a player of his calibre is expected to score.
