Ex-Haas boss Steiner to take over MotoGP team Tech3

Gunther Steiner, the former boss of Formula One team Haas, will take over as CEO of MotoGP outfit Tech3 next season, the circuit’s organisers announced on Friday.

The Italian headed a consortium which has agreed a deal to buy the France-based team, founded in the 1980s by Herve Poncharal, who will hand over the reins to Steiner.

Steiner was sacked by Haas last year and replaced by Japanese Ayo Komatsu.

“The new structure is set to take full effect from 2026,” MotoGP said in a statement.

“With new owners begins a new era, with Steiner assuming the role of CEO and project partner Richard Coleman becoming Team Principal. Founder and current Team Principal, Herve Poncharal, will continue to lead Tech3 through the current campaign.”

The team will keep its current name and remain based in the south of France.

The 60-year-old Steiner, who is also a US citizen, discovered motorsports in rallying before joining F1 with Jaguar, who later became Red Bull, in 2001.

He became best known for his work at Haas, who he led from 2014 until 2023, notably due to his trademark outbursts on the team radio.
