Record Le Mans winners Porsche pull plug on endurance racing

Porsche, record 19-time winners of the Le Mans 24 Hours, are ending their participation in the world endurance championship, the German constructor announced on Tuesday.

As part of a shift in focus from 2026, Porsche will only compete in the FIA’s Formula E electric series and the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship featuring the 24 Hours of Daytona.

“We very much regret that, due to the current circumstances, we will not be continuing our involvement in the WEC after this season,” said Michael Steiner, a Porsche AG board member.

Porsche opened their Le Mans account in 1970, going on to claim seven consecutive wins in the pinnacle of motorsport endurance racing between 1981-87, with the last of their 19 wins coming in 2017.
