Israeli clubs can resume hosting European basketball games

Israeli clubs in two European basketball competitions will be allowed to host home games in Israel from December 1, the Euroleague announced on Tuesday.

Since the start of the conflict with Hamas in October 2023, Israeli clubs in the Euroleague and EuroCup have played home games abroad.

Euroleague organisers said its clubs met on Tuesday and, in response to the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10, “approved the proposal to return matches to Israel starting December 1, 2025”.

Maccabi Tel Aviv, six-time winners of the competition, and Hapoel Tel Aviv are playing in the Euroleague this season. Hapoel Jerusalem are in the second-tier EuroCup.

Maccabi have been playing their home games in Belgrade, where they host Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Hapoel Tel Aviv have made their home in Sofia where their next home game is on October 29 against Partizan Belgrade.

Hapoel Jerusalem are at home to Slask Wroclaw on Tuesday in Belgrade.

“Euroleague Basketball will continue to carefully monitor developments,” said the statement, adding that “the safety and well-being of everyone involved remain the top priority”.
