Hibernians forward Miullen and Marsaxlokk midfielder Ulises Arias were the only players to be punished by the Malta FA Disciplinary Commissioner for their involvement in the clashes that broke out at the end of YoHealth Malta Premier League clash between the two clubs at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Marsaxlokk came back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Hibernians to ensure they will be playing in the Top Six and at the same time condemn the Paola club to the Bottom Six.
At the final whistle, several players from both sides were involved in an altercation that began on the pitch and continued in the tunnel.
On Saturday night, Marsaxlokk condemned the ‘shameful and violent’ acts of the Hibernians players and appealed to the football authorities that severe disciplinary action should be taken against those responsible to ensure that such behaviour doesn’t happen again.
“To preserve Maltese football’s reputation and make sure that this behavior doesn’t happen again, we demand that the appropriate authorities take severe disciplinary action,” the Marsaxlokk statement had said.
However, when the Disciplinary Commissioner issued his weekly list of suspensions, only two players involved in those clashes were suspended.
Hibernians forward Miullen and Marsaxlokk midfielder Ulises Arias were both handed a three-match suspension, a ban that will rule them out of their team’s opening three fixtures of the second phase of the championship.
Marsaxlokk goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi and Hibs wing back Dexter Xuereb, who both were sent off during the match, were handed a one-match ban.
In other rulings from other Premier League matches, the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner also handed a one-match ban to eight other players.
Birkirkara defender Kurt Zammit, who was dismissed against Ħamrun Spartans, Gżira United duo Clayton Failla and David Xuereb, who were sent off against Naxxar Lions, were all handed a one-match ban.
Mosta had two players, Sunday Okereke and Matthew Bolanos, sanctioned with a one-match suspension after picking up their fourth booking in their team’s 1-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows.
The Rainbows, on their part, had Ghana midfielder Kwasi Donsu banned for one match for picking up a fourth yellow card.
Żabbar St Patrick’s Zean Leonardi and Miguel Baggio, of Sliema, were also given a one-match ban after receiving a fourth caution last weekend.
