As the year draws to a close, the Executive Committee of the Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA) has announced that the nominations process for the 2026 edition of the Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali is now officially open.
Sports associations and federations have received the official communication and an invitation to submit nominations for their athletes in the established categories, based on achievements and results attained between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
Main Award Categories
Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year; Young Sportsman and Young Sportswoman of the Year; Coach of the Year; Official of the Year; Team of the Year.
Additional Annual Awards
International Event of the Year (organised in Malta); People’s Choice Award; Recognition of Special Olympics Athletes (Female and Male); Sport for Social Change Award.
The Malta Sports Journalists Association said in a statement that it is reminding all associations and federations that, during the nomination process, particular consideration should be given to performances achieved in international competitions, which carry greater weight.
“Results will be assessed according to the following order of priority: Olympic Games (Summer / Winter) and EYOF; World Championships; European Championships; Commonwealth Games / Youth Commonwealth Games; Mediterranean Games/Mediterranean Beach Games; Games of the Small States of Europe.
“Other international games recognised by, or at the discretion of, the Maltese Olympic Committee; Other international competitions recognised by the relevant international association or federation to which the national association or federation is affiliated and National Championships.”
General Secretaries of associations or federations who have not yet received the official nominations link are kindly requested to contact Ms Joanna Camilleri, General Secretary of the Malta Sports Journalists Association, via email at info@maltasportsjournalists.com.
Nominations will close on January 6, 2026, with the awards ceremony scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026.
The 66th edition of the Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali (Malta’s National Sports Awards) will once again be organised by the Malta Sports Journalists Association, with the full support of the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation.
