Naxxar Lions hammered their neighbouring rivals, Mosta, to send a clear statement that they are ready to battle hard to bounce back from a disappointing Opening Round and ensure they preserve their top-flight status.

The Lions dominated their opponents from start to finish and took just 11 minutes to threaten when Vinicius’ shot drifted just wide and then Louis Pahama hit an overhead kick that failed to find the target.

Naxxar finally found the breakthrough on 26 minutes when Joao Victor fired past David Akpan.

Mosta were rattled and Naxxar doubled their lead two minutes later.

Vinicius hit a thumping drive that gave no chance to Akpan.

The match was as good as over on 42 minutes when Naxxar made it 3-0 through a firm header by Joao Victor.

Mosta’s response never arrived and substitute Gabriel Goncalves headed home the fourth goal on 66 minutes.

Pahama joined Naxxar’s scoring party on 72 minutes when he fired home from close in and wrapped up a memorable victory for the Lions.
