Weightlifting Olympic champion Dimas to attend L-Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali on Saturday

The Malta Sports Journalists Association will host Olympic legend Pyrros Dimas who will be the special guest for the 66th edition of L-Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali on Saturday.

Dimas is widely regarded as one of the greatest weightlifters in Olympic history.

Born in Himarë, he rose to international prominence representing Greece and went on to secure three Olympic gold medals at the Barcelona 1992 Summer Olympics, the 1996 edition, and in Sydney four years later.

Added to that, he completed his Olympic collection when taking bronze in the Athens Games in 2004.

Dimas’ remarkable consistency at the highest level also includes multiple world and European Championship titles, establishing him as a defining figure in modern weightlifting.

Beyond his achievements on the platform, Dimas has continued to contribute to sport through leadership and administration, serving in prominent roles within international weightlifting structures and dedicating his experience to the development of future generations.

His presence at L-Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali adds further prestige to an evening that celebrates excellence, dedication and integrity within Maltese sport.

The evening will be presented by Anthea Zammit and Quinton Scerri, who will lead the ceremony from the main stage.

Meanwhile, Maria Laura Vella Clark and Charles Camenzuli will be stationed on the red carpet, welcoming athletes and distinguished guests as they arrive and capturing their reactions and comments ahead of the ceremony.
