With the win, the Southerners remained nine points adrift of Closing Round winners Floriana while Gżira missed the chance to push themselves into the top three places.

In the first half, Gżira threatened first on nine minutes when Andre Pena Da Costa burst through but was anticipated by goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi.

Marsaxlokk threatened on 13 minutes when Dodo Soares failed to fire home from close in.

The best chance for Marsaxlokk arrived on 43 minutes when Ulises Arias served Minala who failed to control the ball and Dodo Soares blasted wide.
