Melita booked their place in the BOV Challenge Cup final with a 3-1 victory over Xewkija Tigers in Gozo, overcoming an early setback to take control of the semi-final.

Xewkija made the brighter start and struck first inside six minutes. Ian Xuereb capitalised on early momentum to give the Gozitans a 1-0 lead.

Melita, however, responded quickly and just four minutes later, Alan Borg Oliver restored parity.

Then, Melita scored a second goal on 21 minutes, when Kevin Stev Moreno Obregon completed the turnaround to make it 2-1. A

Deep into stoppage time in the first half, Xewkija were awarded a penalty that could have reset the contest. Still, Brian Alejandro Parada saw his effort saved, preserving Melita’s advantage heading into the interval.

The result was sealed in the dying minutes of the match when Eric Mensah added a third goal, confirming Melita’s progression to the final and effectively ending any late hopes of a comeback.
