Maltese goalkeeper James Sissons named Chesterfield Academy Player of the Year

Sissons made his Malta U-21 debut this season at just 18 years of age in an U-21 European qualifier against Georgia.

Maltese goalkeeper James Sissons has been named Chesterfield FC’s Academy Player of the Year, a prestigious accolade awarded ahead of several highly rated prospects within the club’s youth system.

Sissons’ recognition comes on the back of a standout season defined by consistency, impact, and rapid progression across multiple levels.

Notably, the 18-year-old recorded Man of the Match honours in 33% of his appearances. Throughout the campaign, Sissons featured across both the U-18 and reserve squads.

Sissons made his Malta U-21 debut this season at just 18 years of age and has already been included in the provisional squad for the senior national team, although he is yet to earn his first cap.
