Tunisia have reportedly parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi just days after their disastrous start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a crushing 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening Group F match.
Reports from multiple international media outlets said the Tunisian Football Federation held an emergency meeting after the loss and decided to end Lamouchi’s tenure with immediate effect.
The 54-year-old was appointed in January after the dismissal of former coach Sami Trabelsi and had overseen only a handful of matches before the World Cup.
Tunisia’s preparations had already raised concerns after heavy defeats in warm-up fixtures, and the emphatic loss to Sweden intensified criticism of the team’s performances.
Before reports of his dismissal emerged, Lamouchi had urged his players to eliminate costly defensive errors following the defeat, warning that Tunisia’s World Cup hopes depended on a rapid improvement.
Tunisia are scheduled to face Japan in their next Group F match, with local media reporting that former international Wahbi Khazri and ex-national coach Mondher Kebaier are among the candidates being considered to take charge of the team for the remainder of the tournament.
