Former Victoria Hotspurs FC president Michael Camilleri passed away, the Gozitan club announced in a statement.
Camilleri had a long association with the GFA Division One side as he served at the club as a player, coach, secretary as well as president.
In 2000, Camilleri was author of a valuable publication that gave an insight to the club’s history.
“It is with profound sadness that Victoria Hotspurs F.C announces the passing away of Michael Camilleri,” the Gozitan club said in a statement.
“Throughout the last half century Michael served as player, coach and President. However he is best remembered for his long stint as Club Secretary, a task he fulfilled with unblemished rectitude and honesty.
“Michael was a gentleman, respected by the supporters of Victoria Hotspurs F.C as well as those of other teams. He always insisted on the importance of true sportsmanship and enjoyment of the beautiful game.
“The President, Committee members, players and supporters of Victoria Hotspurs F.C offer their condolences to his wife Maria and his children George Joseph, Doreen, Ina Marie and Andrew, his grandchildren and family.”
