Maltese Abroad – Sunderland’s Maria Farrugia nets four goals, Al-Tumi to join Arzachena

Malta women Haley Bugeja drew plaudits from all over Europe after her stunning Serie A Femminile debut with Sassuolo. The former Mġarr United netted a brace to help her side overcome Napoli 3-1.

Bugeja, 16, was immediately compared to the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and women’s football great Marta for the natural talent she showcased on the field.

Rachel Cuschieri and Emma Lipman played in Lazio Women’s final pre-season friendly against Res Roma (1-1). They open their Serie B commitments against Pontedera, this Sunday.

Meanwhile, Cuschieri spoke to Lazio Channel Style saying that, “My first impressions about the team are very positive because there is a team that wants to win.”

“We have a lot of youth talent and experienced players with us and I hope that through my experience I can be of a big helping to this squad.”

Both Lazio and Sassuolo discovered their Coppa Italia opponents after the Italian FA released the draws on Friday. Bugeja’s Sassuolo were drawn with Napoli and Pontedera while Lazio will be facing Inter and Brescia. Serie A champions Juventus Women will take on Pink Bari and Pomigliano.

Juventus Women Primavera faced a Chisola boys team in a latest friendly with Malta player Nicole Sciberras registering an assist in their 1-1 draw. The Bianconere will be playing in a four-team tournament this weekend against Serie C side Arezzo and the youth teams of Empoli and hosts Florentia San Gimignano.

Malta international goalkeeper Rashed Al-Tumi is set to resume his career in Italy but with another club. After parting ways with Serie D side Casarano, he is set to sign with another Serie D side in Arzachena Calcio.

Ylenia Carabott left another positive impact with her new side RCSC Charleroi as she helped her side clinch a last-gasp equaliser to chalk up their first top-flight points of the season.

The Malta women player played another full 90 minutes as they drew 1-1 with FC Femina White Star Woluwe.

Malta women forward Maria Farrugia impressed in Sunderland Ladies’ latest friendly as she scored four goals in their 11-0 win over Wallsend. Previously, Farrugia netted a brace in Sunderland’s 7-0 win against Norton & Stockton Ancients.

Ahead of the 2020/2021 season, Farrugia moved from her number 24 to the iconic number 10 shirt at Sunderland.

PORTUGAL

Malta international defender Zach Muscat swapped SC Olhanense for Casa Pia as he will be playing in Portugal’s second-tier.
