Two goals after the break propelled Birkirkara women to a 3-0 win over title rivals Mġarr United in the highlight game of Match Day four.
The Stripes have now joined the Greens on nine points after their third straight win, handing Mġarr their first loss of the season in the process. In fact, Birkirkara have a game in hand whereas for Mġarr this was already their fourth game of the 2020/2021 campaign.
Newcomer Canadian forward Christabel Oduro was the in the starting line-up for the Stripes, joined by Maltese striker Raina Giusti. In fact, it was this offensive couple who combined for Birkirkara’s first goal when Oduro whipped in a cross on the second post on which Giusti capitalised to break the deadlock.
Mġarr, on their part, tried to stage a reaction with the usual suspects in Amber Grech, Brenda Borg and Francesca Chircop but failed to level terms.
At the restart, Gabrielle Zahra doubled Birkirkara’s lead with a long-range effort while 10 minutes later, youth Valentina Rapa scored from point-blank range to hand the Stripes three valuable points.
Another team on nine points is Swieqi United who eased past Mtarfa 6-0 with young forward Demi Magrin gabbing her second straight hat-trick, to make it six goals in two games.
The three other goals were scored by defender Andy Zammit Mizzi, Malta international midfielder Shona Zammit and forward Ruth Steer Chetham.
Elsewhere, Kirkop United hit six past Raiders Għargħur for their second win of the season.
Rodianne Zerafa was on fine form once again as she scored three goals, to top the league’s scorers list with seven goals in three games.
Sarah Urpani added two more goals while Thresa Scicluna rounded up Kirkop’s win with the remaining goal.
