International youth prospect network Eurospects announced their new rankings for various age categories on Thursday and Pallacanestro Orzinuovi’s Kurt Cassar has made it into the European Top 100. The Times of Malta’s Sportsdesk looks at Cassar and other Maltese professionals plying their trade overseas in another segment of ‘Maltese abroad’.

Kurt Cassar, 21, has jointly ranked the 100th best European prospect in the Eurospects rankings for players born in 1999. The Malta center, playing in the Serie A2, was put against players from Barcelona, Panathinaikos and Bayern Munich.
Eurospects is one of the basketball scouting networks which brought forward now NBA draftees Israel forward Deni Avdija from Maccabi Tel Aviv, now with the Washington Wizards and Killian Hayes of France who was drafted by the Detroit Pistons earlier in November.

The Loughborough Riders guard Sasha Lecuyer got her name on the scoreboard again last weekend as the side beat the Thames Valley Cavaliers 72-53 on Saturday.
Lecuyer ended the game with five points, four assists and another four rebounds despite starting from the bench in what was a highly dominant game for the Riders.
The side were on top throughout the game and while the Cavaliers looked for a way back in through a changed defense in the second half, it always remained the Riders’ game as they lead by around 20 points for the majority of the minutes.
The Riders play BA London Lions (away) on Saturday.

Mikela Riolo was scoreless again as CD Magec Tias fell to another defeat, this time to promotion candidates Celta Zorka Recalvi 41-56.
Magec Tias were behind throughout the game but can find positives in a score which the club said was an improvement on former clashes between the sides.
