First team to undergo swab test on Saturday

Senglea Athletic have suspended all their first-team training until at least on Saturday as the Premier League prepares to take a precautionary swab test over COVID-19 after one senior player tested positive for the virus in a rapid test earlier this week.

The Premier League club is one of four Premier League teams who have COVID-19 cases with the others being Valletta, Floriana and Gudja United.

The Cottonera side discovered the case after one member of the senior team felt unwell during training and the following day he underwent a rapid test that resulted positive.

The same player took a swab test but this time the result was negative.

Still, the Premier League club refused to take any chances and have decided to stop all training sessions for the senior team as from last Tuesday.

All members of the first team will undergo a swab test on Saturday and the club will be taking the necessary actions, in accordance to the guidelines of the local health authorities, following the discovery of all results.

Earlier this week, the Malta FA has postponed the next two fixtures of Gudja United against Hibernians and Gżira United as the southerners are currently observing a mandatory quarantine after the discovery of a cluster of cases at the club.
