BOV Player of the Match Wilfried Domoraud (Sirens).
Sirens bounced back to winning ways with a 3-1 rout of Sliema Wanderers at the National Stadium.
It was a precious victory for the St Paul’s Bay side and one which helps Giovanni Tedesco’s side continue to steer away from the relegation zone as they are tenth on 22 points.
Wilfried Domoraud scored a brace to make it seven goals for Sirens in this campaign.
Lamin Bittaye also netted as the new signings seem to have already clicked at the St Paul’s Bay side.
Sliema, on their part, have succumbed to their third straight defeat of the season. Andrea Pisanu’s side sit fourth on 28 points.
Sylvano Comvalius struck one late but it was not enough for Sliema to stage a reaction and salvage at least a point from this game.
The opening stages of the game proved to be a balanced affair, with Gilmar having the biggest chance after eight minutes but failed to hit the target from inside the area after receiving from Juri Cisotti.
Nonetheless, Sirens started to increase the pressure and at the first time of asking, they forged ahead, Bittaye slotting into an empty net from point-blank range after a previous header struck the woodwork from a corner kick.
Sirens came close to a second through Samba Tounkara who struck a long-range effort, forcing Jake Galea into action.
Sliema replied through Gabriel Aquilina but goalkeeper David Cassar denied his attempt.
Moments later, Domoraud missed the target completely from the edge of the area before converting from the penalty spot after Gilmar floored Bittaye, to make it 2-0 before half-time.
At the restart, Sliema tried to pile the pressure on Sirens but Tedesco’s team remained compact and resilient and at their first opportunity, they struck a third to seal the win with a long-range strike from Domoraud.
As time went by, Sliema’s reaction seemed weak with Sirens managing to preserve their three-goal lead until Comvalius hit one back in the closing stages.
However, Sirens kept Sliema’s final efforts at bay to secure a vital victory.
