Żejtun Corinthians earned three important points in their bid to move away from the relegation zone as they defeated Senglea Athletic 3-1.
The Corinthians have extended their positive run in 2021 to four matches, moving 11th, one point ahead of Floriana.
On the other hand, Senglea remain anchored at the bottom of the table as they continue to chase their first win in this Premier League campaign.
Żejtun held the initative right from the start, going close with a Kemar Reid free-kick which was partially saved by goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia after just four minutes.
On the other side of the pitch, on 32 minutes, Igor Misan served Jan Tanti on the left and the latter’s effort was neutralised by Christian Cassar.
A few seconds later, Żejtun took the lead.
In a swift counter-attack, Jurgen Suda sent Vitor Vieira through on the right and the latter slotted past the Senglea custodian with an angled shot.
Six minutes from the end of the first half, Żejtun doubled the score. Vitor Vieira concluded a good run on the left flank with a cross for Reid who tapped home from close range.
Eight minutes in the second half, Vieira sent Reid through but the latter’s shot was deflected into a corner by the Senglea custodian.
Five minutes later, Wilkerson headed just wide off a cross by David Xuereb.
Senglea pulled one back on 64 minutes. Freud Gnindokponou served Tanti who beat Żejtun goalkeeper Cassar with a fine rising shot from outside the area.
However, three minutes later, the Corinthians restored the two-goal lead. Jurgen Suda delivered a cross from the right and Reid hit low past Farrugia.
