Watch: Leeds United College, MB Consult in ground-breaking Malta project

In what can be considered as a ground-breaking project in Maltese education and training, Premier League side Leeds United have announced a partnership with MB Consult that will see the club’s project, Leeds United College, work together to create education and training activity.

The Leeds United College was recently launched by The Whites with the aim of providing students with a first-class learning experience, through a range of courses in the football industry.

Alongside Leeds United, there will be also Longford International College and Rushford Business School involved in this partnership as they will provide education and training courses that combine practical and academic aspects.

In fact, by the term pracademic, this collaboration wants to emphasize on the sensible balance achieved between the academic rigour need for a degree and the practical grounding required by employers.

Martin Borg (picture), owner and CEO of MB Consult, will be the reference point in Malta as he will assist Leeds United College in this project and will be entrusted to guide the students with the required information throughout their journey.

“The world of football and that of education and training may be combined through the creation of quality educational programmes,” Borg told the Times of Malta.

“Following formal and informal discussions, I am in a position to explain the project which seeks to provide programmes to students within the football industry.

“What struck me most is the methodology by which this project will be conducted as this will include practicals, work placements and educational training which will be valuable to the participants.”

In fact, each programme is structured to allow learning to happen through practical experience and theoretical based learning, all via a team of elite industry teaching staff.

The Leeds United College initiative will allow students in Malta to study with the colleges across a range of vocational areas also on online basis.

Detailed information on the programmes that will be offered will be launched soon by means of a dedicated webinar and information session.

“This partnership will pay dividends in both the football community and in the educational sector on our shores,” Borg explained.

“The concept is to develop and sustain performance and the best way to do it is to invest in human capital product.

“Education and training were key in previous successful sectors in Malta hence I believe it can be pivotal in this partnership as well.

Borg’s MB Consult provides education and training solutions customized to the needs and requirements of licensed education and training providers, industry, enterprise and entrepreneurs seeking to enter into the education and training market.

Given his experience in this world, Borg feels that our country can thrive and this partnership will reflect the progress done so far in Malta.

“Through this idea of unstructured learning such as practicals and work placements, I see education and training striving in Malta,” he said.

“We have the right ingredients to make this work and if we are all driven to raise the level of performance, it will be easier for us to implement our vision.”
