Coach Andrea Pisanu open to new experience as Sliema contract expires

Andrea Pisanu is looking forward to take on a new challenge as his Sliema Wanderers contract has expired.

Pisanu – who recently graduated as a UEFA Pro Licensed-coach – steered the Blues to the upper part of the Premier League this season, helping Sliema return as a competitive side in the domestic scene.

Sliema placed in fifth place with 40 points after 23 games. Under Pisanu’s guidance, the 26-time Malta champions won 12 games and drew 4, scoring 39 goals in the process thanks also to the Italian coach’s high-pressing football.

“My contract with Sliema Wanderers has come to an end but I will still need to speak to them before taking on a new challenge to see if we can continue to work together,” Pisanu told The Times of Malta.

“Nonetheless, I am still open to take on a new challenge.”

Times of Malta understands that two local clubs have already sounded Pisanu for their post.

While Pisanu feels ready to embark on a coaching career away from Malta, possibly in his native Italy, the former Parma player would still welcome a Maltese challenge.

“After so many years in Malta, I feel prepared to take a team outside Malta,” Pisanu admitted.

“However, I would still be open for a challenge in Malta as the championship here is very intriguing and can give you the opportunity to European football a well.”
