Floriana FC eye fresh start in AGM, planning to appoint new foreign technical staff

Floriana FC are looking to embark on a new challenge in the coming weeks as the former Malta champions are determined to put behind them a very difficult 2020-21 campaign.

Much more was expected for Floriana FC last season as the outgoing champions found themselves battling to retain their top-flight status instead of mounting a serious challenge to try and defend the Premier League crown they won the previous term.

In fact, at the turn of the new year, the Greens found themselves engaged in a relegation battle. The return of coach Vincenzo Potenza and that of Johann Said in the club’s administration managed to somewhat put the club back on track and at least managed to secure their top-flight status for another season.

Now, Floriana FC are looking to put the club back on track when on June 6 they will hold the Annual General Meeting where a new committee will be elected.

Once the new committee will be put in place, the club will be looking to strengthen their first team and their first objective will be to install a new technical staff.

Informed sources have told the Times of Malta that one of the options being considered is to bring to the club an overseas technical staff with the aim of setting up a professional set-up.

The team will include not only top-quality coaches but also scouts and phsyiotherapists.

It is understood that the club are planning to overhaul their squad ahead of the new season.

Ryan Camenzuli has emerged as a major transfer target for several top sides in the Premier League. The player has already informed the club hierarchy that he would like to seek pastures new.

Ħamrun Spartans and Birkirkara have expressed an interest in the player who is in his final year of his contract.

The Spartans have tabled a bid for the Malta wing back but so far no agreement has been reached between the two clubs.

Sources close to Floriana FC said that the club are still trying to convince the player to remain at the club but if the player maintains his stance to leave the club they will only let him go if they receive the right offer.

The same sources that the new technical staff at the club will be pushing to promote Maltese talent in the club and in fact their goal is that they will not have a big number of overseas players on their books.

In fact, the Times of Malta can confirm that the only foreign players who could be lined up to stay at the club are midfield duo Matias Garcia and Ulisses Arias.

However, this technical plan is dependent on what will happen during the club’s committee elections scheduled at the Annual General Meeting on June 6.
