The Malta national team’s friendly against Kazakhstan has been called off, the Malta Football Association announced.
Malta were due to face Kazakhstan in their final warm-up on June 7 but the Kazakh FA informed the Malta FA that due to problems related to the issue of visas for the members of their contingent to enter Austria they were forced to pull out from the match.
“The Malta National Team’s friendly international scheduled for today week, Monday 7th June against Kazakhstan has been officially called off,” the Malta FA said in a statement.
“The Kazakhstan Federation notified the Malta Football Association that due to the fact that the Kazakh contingent scheduled to fly to Austria for the friendly match faced problems obtaining the necessary visas, they were forced to cancel the international friendly match which was scheduled to be played at the Lavanttal-Arena in Wolfsberg.
“The Kazakhstan National Team were scheduled to fly to Austria on Wednesday, two days prior to the fixture.”
The Malta FA said that the decision could possibly trigger some changes in the Malta National Team 12-day training camp schedule in Austria and will be communicated in due course.
The next fixture for the Malta national team is against Kosovo on Friday.
