Birkirkara confirmed the signing of Diego Venancio in a swap deal that will see Zak Cassar join Floriana.
Last week, the Times of Malta reported that the two Premier League clubs had reached an agreement in principle that would see Venancio don the Stripes shirt with young Cassar heading to Floriana.
The deal was finally confirmed on Tuesday by both clubs.
Venancio was subject to interest from Floriana’s neighbouring rivals Valletta last week, but the Greens pulled out of negotiations.
Birkirkara immediately entered the race to sign the Brazilian midfielder and a deal has been now completed with the Brazilian player putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.
“Birkirkara FC is delighted to announce the signing of Brazilian playmaker – Diego Silva. The 27–year-old has penned a two-year deal and will be joining the rest of the team in their preparations for our European football commitments,” the Stripes said in a statement.
“Diego Silva is no new name in Maltese football, proving to be amongst the most technical players on the island. He has won the BOV Premier League and was chosen as one of the best midfielders in the MFPA 2019/2020 Best XI.”
