Football fans return for Mosta-Spartak Trnava tie after 16-month absence

Maltese football will welcome back Maltese football fans for the first time this evening when Mosta FC host Spartak Trnava in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League at the National Stadium.

Fans have been missing from Maltese football for almost 18 months now due to the COVID-19 pandemic but they will finally make a return on Tuesday when Mosta make their European debut against Spartak Trnava at the Centenary Stadium.

A maximum 200 supporters will be allowed into the stadium.

“The Malta Football Association is pleased to finally welcome back fans to our stadiums for football matches following 16 months of action behind closed doors due to Covid-related measures,” the Malta Football Association said in a statement.

“The Malta FA would like to point out that for the upcoming UEFA Club competition matches: only persons in possession of a match ticket and a vaccination certificate are allowed to enter the stadium. An identification document will also be requested prior to entry at the stadium.

“Persons attending such matches will be requested to provide their contact details for contact-tracing purposes.

“There will be no ticket sales at the door for any of these matches.

“Persons in attendance shall wear a face mask at all times and respect social distancing. Anyone not adhering to these measures will not be granted access to the stadium.”

Birkirkara too will be welcoming their fans for Thursday’s UEFA Conference League match against La Fiorita.

In fact, the Stripes have announced that they have decided not to sell the tickets and instead off them free of charge to supporters in a draw for club members.

“The club has just been informed that for the UEFA Conference League match on Thursday at the Centenary Stadium, 200 supporters shall be allowed into the stadium,” Birkirkara FC said in a statement.

“The club has decided not to sell these tickets but instead offer them free of charge to supporters in a draw that shall be made for all those members interested in attending the match. It is important to note that all those interested in being eligible for a ticket must have a COVID-19 passport.

“All those interested in being in line for a ticket must be members by tomorrow (Wednesday) 10pm and pass on their name to one of the clubs’ representatives.

“The club would like to invite their loyal supporters to donate anything they deem fit on match day.”
