In-form Jeremy Zammit places seventh in World U-20 Championships in Kenya

Malta’s long jump sensation Jeremy Zammit secured a prestigious result at the World U-20 Athletics Championships when he managed to finish seventh overall in Nairobi, Kenya on Friday.

Zammit came into the competition on the back of an impressive fifth placing at the European U-20 Championships that were held in Estonia earlier this summer after managing two national record jumps of 7.58 and 7.62m in Tallinn.

On Friday, Zammit continued where he left off in Friday’s final which brought together the world’s best jumpers in the U-20 level.

He managed a best jump of 7.42m in his first attempt that secured seventh place in the world U-20 championships.

France’s Erwan Konate took the gold medal with a leap of 8.12 metres while Colombia’s Jhon Andres Berrio took silver in 7.97.

Jamaica’s Kavian Kerr took bronze with a best jump of 7.90m.

Zammit finished ahead of Czech Republic’s Tomas Kratochvil (7.34m), Kenya’s Denis Mwangi (7.27) and Italy’s Carlo Santaca who had a best jump of 7.26.

No doubt, this result is further confirmation that the young long jumper is among the most promising athletes for Malta in track and field and should further boost his confidence ahead of other major competitions in the future.
