With the summer window in Italy closing at 1800 GMT, Caputo has switched clubs on a season-long loan with obligation to buy, Sassuolo said in a statement.
Italian media report that Samp will have to pay 3.5 million euros ($4.1 million) to complete the purchase of Caputo.
The 34-year-old scored 11 times in 25 Serie A appearances last season after netting 21 times the previous campaign.
He has two caps for Italy, scoring his only Azzurri goal in a friendly with Moldova in 2020.
20.45 Keita Balde on Tuesday signed for Cagliari from Monaco in a permanent deal that keeps the once highly-rated forward in Serie A.
Cagliari did not announce the details of the transfer but media in Italy say Monaco allowed Keita to leave for free despite having a season left on his contract.
The 26-year-old was on loan at Sampdoria last season but was not kept on after scoring seven goals in 25 Serie A appearances.
He had been sold to Monaco by Lazio in 2017 after a long feud with club president Claudio Lotito, but following an underwhelming season in the Principality was then sent on loan, first to Inter Milan in 2018 and then Samp last term.
Keita has played 33 times for Senegal, scoring five times.

The details of the transfer are a loan for €2.6m with option to buy for another €5.4m plus bonuses.

The Blues have been desperate to boost their forward line before the end of the transfer window and have set their sights on the 24-year-old forward.
Akinbule has put pen to paper on a one-year contract and could make his debut against Ħamrun Spartans on September 12.
16.30 Sliema Wanderers have signed Dutch defender Julius Bliek, the Times of Malta can confirmed.
The Wanderers have been looking to bolster their squad after a low-key start to the season and have targeted the 27-year-old.
Personal terms have been agreed between the two parties and the players has put pen to paper on a one-year contract.
Bliek spent the majority of his career in his homeland. He started his career with JVOZ youth before moving to DFC and VV Kloetinge before moving to Go Ahead Eagles in 2018.
The defender left the Netherlands in January 2020 when he moved to Georgian side Saburtalo.
After six months in the former Russian republic, Bliek opted to return home at FC Dordrecth.
16.15 Chelsea attacking midfielder Tino Anjorin to have a medical ahead of a loan move to Lokomotiv Moscow.
The Russian club have an obligation to buy the 19-year-old for £17m.
Chelsea have inserted a buy back clause of around £40m.
Russian window closes on September 7 – but deal has to be done by tomorrow for Anjorin to be available for the Europa League.
16.00 Barcelona have opened negotiations with Atletico Madrid over a swap deal involving Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann, various sources have confirmed to ESPN.
Barca failed with an offer to take Felix on loan on Monday, with Atletico knocking them back immediately, but returned on Tuesday with a new proposal involving Griezmann.
Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is working as an intermediary on the operation, while sources close to Griezmann say a deal is not “impossible.”
15.45 Sergio Oliveira dropped a hint on social media that the FC Porto midfielder is on the way to Roma for transfer deadline day, but there are mixed reports.
The 29-year-old has started following the Giallorossi on Instagram.
It comes amid reports from Sky Sport Italia that Oliveira is in advanced negotiations for the transfer to Jose Mourinho’s club.
Portuguese transfer expert Pedro Almeida and Sky Sport Italia both claim a deal is very close to completion.
However, there are also reports that his agency denied a move was possible.

15.00 Napoli have secured midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa from Fulham, on loan with an option to buy for €15m, claim reports in Italy.
The 25-year-old will arrive on transfer deadline day to bolster their options in the middle of the park, according to Sky Sport Italia.
Fulham had purchased Anguissa from Olympique Marseille in 2018 for €25m and he spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Villarreal.
He is a Cameroon international with four goals in 29 senior caps for the Indomitable Lions.
14.40 Sheffield United are set to sign French winger Yann Karamoh from Serie A side Parma.
14.20 Lyon are in talks to sign former Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng.

14.05 Liverpool announced on Tuesday that captain Jordan Henderson has signed a new long-term contract with the club reportedly keeping him tied to the English giants until 2025.
“Jordan Henderson has signed a new contract with Liverpool Football Club to commit his long-term future to the Reds,” they said in a statement.
The 31-year-old has made 394 appearances since joining from Sunderland a decade ago and led Liverpool to their first league title for 30 years in 2020.
13.45 Atalanta announced the signing of the Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners for a reported €14m fee.
“I’m really excited to be an Atalanta player. I think it’s a club that fits me really well. I also really like the country and the culture,” the former PSV man told Atalanta’s official website.
“Marten de Roon and Hans Hateboer told me a lot of positive things about the club but also the city and the people. So, I cannot wait to meet you,” he continued.
13.20 Fabrizio Romano has just revealed that Sevilla sporting director Monchi has said that Chelsea will only sign Joules Kounde if they pay his release clause that stands at €75-80m.
13.10 Valletta FC have announced the signing of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo.
Bartolo, who left champions Ħamrun Spartans this summer following the arrival of Malta goalkeeper Henry Bonello, was initially tipped to be heading to his former club San Ġwann.
However, the deal failed to materialise and Valletta FC entered the race to secure the services of the experienced goalkeeper and an agreement was finally reached this week.
Bartolo has put pen to paper on a one-year contract.
13.05 Arsenal have agreed a deal worth €23m with Bologna for defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Japan international will now undergo a medical. Personal terms are not expected to be a problem. Tottenham were interested earlier in the window.
As reported earlier, Arsenal right back Hector Bellerin to have a medical in Seville ahead of a move to Real Betis.
13.00 More news from Maltese football, and the Times of Malta can confirm that Brazilian striker Ronald Makalysten Melo Costa is not going to play for Santa Lucia FC this season.
Reports on Wednesday had said that the Premier League club had registered the Brazilian striker on a one-year deal.
Melo Costa trained with Sta Lucia FC but the player will now be heading to Mqabba FC for the upcoming season.
Sta Lucia FC have an option on the player at the end of the season.
12.45 Ħamrun Spartans have completed the signing of Ghana wingback Isaac Ntow.
Ntow was on the books of Birkirkara FC but has fallen out of favour and initially it was thought that he would sign for Mosta but the transfer fell through.
Now the Malta champions agreed terms with the player who has put pen to paper on a one-year deal.
12.15 Everton are pursuing a deal to bring in former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon and re-unite him with manager Rafael Benitez at Goodison Park.
Benitez is looking for attacking cover after Moise Kean returned to Juventus on loan and with James Rodriguez now not figuring in Everton’s plans.
The 31-year-old Venezuelan played under Benitez on Tyneside and then again during his spell in China as coach of Dalian Yifang.
11.50 Wolves appear out of the race to sign Sven Botman – while Duje Caleta-Car is also not an option for them on deadline day.
Sevilla still want Botman, who is keen to remain playing Champions League football this season, if they sell Jules Kounde to Chelsea.
That deal is still not done, however, and Sevilla still need to agree a deal with Lille for Botman – and the French club want to keep him.
11.30 Back to Maltese football as Mosta FC have announced that they have sent young Liam Portelli on loan to Challenge League side Qrendi FC for the rest of the 2021-22 season.
Portelli made one appearance for the Blues this season, coming on as a substitute in the 3-0 defeat against Birkirkara.
11.15 Atalanta have reportedly made a move for Jeremie Boga, but Sassuolo are asking for at least €25m.
The Ivory Coast international has excelled at the Mapei Stadium after arriving from Chelsea in July 2018.
The 24-year-old has since scored 18 goals in 92 competitive games with the Neroverdi, where he has spent three seasons under Roberto De Zerbi.
But De Zerbi moved to Shakhtar Donetsk this summer and Alessio Dionisi has replaced him at the helm and Sassuolo have started the season in a positive way.
11.00 SkySports News is reporting that Tottenham are still trying to sign Adama Traore despite Wolves not wanting him to leave the club.
Wolves will only entertain an offer of £50m plus for the winger, who still has two years left on his contract.
Wolves are also in discussions to sign Renato Sanches from Lille.
A loan deal has been offered.

10.15 Birkirkara have announce the signing of young striker Miguel Micallef.
The 19-year-old had already spent the first part of pre-season with Birkirkara but had opted to venture in a move to Spanish club La Roda FC where he would feature for them in the youth league.
However, the Spanish clubs experienced financial difficulties and Micallef was forced to return to Malta and has now joined Birkirkara FC.
10.00 West Ham have announced the signing of CSKA Moscow midfielder Nikola Vlasic on a five-year deal.
9.45 Jesse Lingard will remain at Manchester United and the club would be happy if that’s the case, SkySports News is reporting.
If an offer was to arrive in the final hours of the transfer window, it will be discussed with Lingard and a collective decision will be made on his future.
If he does remain at Old Trafford, a contract extension has not been ruled out with his current deal up next summer.
9.20 The first major transfer from the Maltese Premier League comes from Floriana FC who have signed Romanian forward Andrei Ciolacu, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Greens were determined to bolster their forward line after their struggles to take their chances in their opening two fixtures of the season.
The 29-year-old forward has been in talks with Floriana over the weekend and a deal was finally agreed on deadline day that saw him put pen to paper on a one-year contract.
09.10 Cristiano Ronaldo has left Juventus and in comes Italy international forward Moise Kean, who has completed a two-year loan deal from Everton.
The loan deal worth €7m and there is an obligation to buy worth €28m.
There are also add-ons in the deal worth 3m euros with the total agreement of the deal 38m euros.
Kean, 21, had been with Juve between 2016-19, before moving to Goodison Park.
But he struggled for first-team action with the Toffees and was on loan at Paris St-Germain last season.

Willian has struggled for first-team football at Arsenal in the last few months and has decided to return to his homeland.
He has walked away from £20.5m and terminated his Arsenal contract as his move to Brazilian side Corinthians nears.
Willian had two years left on his £240,000-a-week Arsenal contract but instead of staying at the Emirates or asking for a pay-off, he has decided to tear up his contract.
08.05 Real Madrid have pulled the plug on a move for Kylian Mbappe and are now set to sign Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
Paris St Germain and Manchester United were both interested in the player who has now opted for the Merengues.
08.01 Roma announced on Monday that Argentina midfielder Javier Pastore had left the club two years before the end of his contract.
Pastore, 32, scored four goals in 36 games for the Italian side after joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018.
He made the last of his 29 international appearances four years ago.
“The club can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Javier Pastore for the mutual termination of his contract,” Roma posted on Twitter.
