The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta have named Delon Dannhauser as an interim national swimming coach following the departure of Artem Goncharenko late last month.
South African coach Dannhauser has been in Malta for almost three years now where he is working as Associate Head Coach at Sirens ASC.
Sources have told the Times of Malta that Dannhauser has agreed to take over the job of national coach for the next three months and then a decision will be taken on whether he will sign a new long-term contract with the local governing body of acquatic sport.
The ASA have been working hard to find a replacement for Goncharenko who stepped down from his job late last month after he was offered the opportunity to return home and work for the Ukrainian Swimming Federation.
In Dannhauser, the ASA will be working with a coach who has enjoyed a lot of experience in South Africa – a country that enjoyed a lot of success in swimming in recent years.
Dannhauser worked at Mustang Swimming Club and Pisces Swimming Club before opening his own swimming school in Durban where he focused his work with young swimmers up to the age of 12 years.
Prior to his arrival to Malta, he worked at the Seagulls Swimming Club where he was assistant to high-profile South African coach Graham Hill who was part of the country’s coaching staff at the 2000 Summer Olympics, including gold medallist Chad Le Clos.
