Maltese swimmers continued to set new standards at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia.
Dylan Cachia set his second national record of the week in the 200 metres freestyle.
Cachia raced home in a time of one minute 51.36 seconds.
Cachia’s time was almost a second faster than the previous best of 1:52.79 which was set by Matthew Galea in Wuppertal in October 2018.
For Cachia, this was his second national record he set at the European Short Course Championships.
In fact, earlier this week he swam the 400m Free in a Short Course national record of 03:57.26.
His time was almost six seconds faster than the previous best set by Thomas J. Woods in Istanbul in 2021 when he had completed the distance in 4:03.30.
Maltese swimmers will return in action on Saturday when Cachia will compete in the 800m freestyle while Sasha Gatt will be on the starting blocks for the 200m freestyle.
Thomas Wareing will take part in the 100m Individual Medley
