The bad weather that hit Malta on Saturday did little to disrupt the proceedings on the first day of the 2021 National Swimming Championships hosted by the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta in Tal-Qroqq.
Following the end of the competition on Saturday, the following Age Group records were established.
Caine Schembri swam a time of 33.36 in the 50m Breaststroke. The previous record of 33.65, had been established by Schembri himself in June, 2021 in Gżira.
In the meantime, it was a hat-trick for eleven-year-old Ella Fenech Attard who established Age Group Records in the 100m and 200m butterfly event and the 400m Medley.
In the 100m butterfly, Fenech Attard swam a time of 1:12.86, the previous record being of 1:13.76 which was held by Michela Portelli, which had been established in 2019 in Nis, Serbia.
In the 200m butterfly, Fenech Attard’s time of 2:40:52 saw her establish a new record – the previous one having been set by Sarah Demicoli in Berlin 2012.
Demicoli’s time was 2:46.17.
Finally in the 400m medley, Fenech Attard set another record when she swam the 400m medley in a time of 5:42.05, compared to the record of 5:56.93 she had set earlier on in July in Gzira.
