Sassuolo are one of the four semi-finalists that will take field on January 5, with Bugeja’s side set to meet Italian giants and tournament favourites Juventus at the Stadio Benito Stirpe of Frosinone.
The winner will advance to the final which is pencilled for January 8 where they will face one between Roma and Milan.
Speaking to the Italian Football Association’s official channels, Bugeja heaped praise on Sassuolo’s progress and indicated coach Gianpiero Piovani as a key factor in their growth.
“Our coach always insists that the most important thing is what we are able to do ourselves rather than think about our opponents,” Bugeja said.
Asked about the task of facing Juventus, Bugeja underlined the Bianconere’s collective strength which helped them dominate the Italian scene in recent years.
Nonetheless, she is still upbeat on her team’s chances of upsetting Juventus in the semi-final.
“We all know that Juventus have a lot of good players and is a very good team but at the same time, I believe that Sassuolo is also a very competitive team,” she said.
The 2022 edition will be the 25th Italian women’s Super Cup with Sassari Torres boasting the all-time winning record with seven triumphs.
Juventus claimed their first two Super Cups in the last couple of editions while Milan’s two titles date back to 1998 and 1999. Roma are still looking for their first Super Cup.
