Jacob Formosa joins Australian NBL side Eastern Suns

Malta international Jacob Formosa has moved from the Joondalup Wolves to the Eastern Suns in the Australian NBL One West division. The move was announced by the club on Wednesday in a move to better their chances in this season’s championship.

“In recruiting Jacob Formosa, we are getting an experienced international level guard who we believe could be one of the premier 2-way point guards in the league,” the Suns said in a statement on their socials.

“We are excited to see him excel in the open court for us with his speed, size, and ability to finish on the break, and then he will become the head of the snake for us in our defence.

“Jacob has already made a major impact around the group with his leadership and the way he embodies all of our team values here in the Suns family!”

Formosa, who was unable to join the Malta contingent over the summer for the FIBA Small Countries of Europe Games due to COVID-19 restrictions in Australia will be a well-needed boost for the Suns, who have until now, struggled in their games and are currently 4-17 in the NBL One West, their last five games having been losses.

The 24-year-old guard had averaged 4.66 points, 1.28 assists, and 1.85 rebounds per game so far with the Wolfpack, ahead of his move to the Perth side. He joins Dyson Lowe as one of the team’s new signings over the Christmas period.

Formosa had joined the Wolfpack back in February 2021 as the side was preparing for its new season in the newly rebranded league, formerly known as the State Basketball League (SBL).
