Valletta FC have completed a major transfer coup as they have reached an agreement with San Ġwann FC to sign young Maltese forward Andrea Zammit, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The 18-year-old forward is seen by many as one of the most promising forwards in Maltese football and Valletta FC have been one of three Premier League clubs who have been on the trail of the young player’s signature for several months now.
In fact, Valletta have been looking to sign Zammit since the final weeks of the summer’s transfer window but a deal could not be reached.
However, talks between the two clubs resumed in the last few weeks, and an agreement has been finally reached.
Zammit finalised his move to Valletta on Monday morning where he is expected to put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
The Malta U-21 international has been looking to make a step forward in his career for several months after becoming a key figure for San Ġwann FC in the Challenge League.
In fact, last summer, Zammit was on the verge of continuing his career abroad after spending ten days on trial with Turkish side Fatih Karagümrük S.K.
In fact, Zammit trained with the Turkish side for a ten-day training camp and he impressed the club’s technical staff and were keen to offer the player a contract.
However, Zammit felt that his chances of playing regular football with Fatih Karagumruk would have been limited and opted to continue his career in Malta.
At San Ġwann FC, Zammit has enjoyed a positive start to the 2021-22 season where he managed to score seven goals in 10 league matches in the Challenge League.
The young forward is an established international at youth level having represented Malta at U-17, U-19 and U-21 level.
Last November, he managed to score his first goal for the Malta U-21 when he came off the bench to grab the team’s second goal in a 2-0 win in Northern Ireland.
