Dylan Galea’s work at Haverhill Rovers draws plaudits from local media

Maltese coach Dylan Galea sparked Haverhill Rovers women’s team into life since taking over as he is yet to oversee a defeat in regular time after the first three games in charge.

Last Sunday, Galea guided Haverhill Rovers into the semi-finals of the Suffolk FA Women’s Cup after a 3-0 victory over Brett Vale thanks to a brace from Olivia Dunne and a Georgia England. The draw of the final four of the competition is set to be made this evening.

These performances did not go unnoticed as the Maltese coach is drawing plaudits from the local media for the way he managed to turn things around at the club in such a short time.

Galea, who is also a coach at the Arsenal Women’s Academy, was keen about embarking into first-team football and Haverhill Rovers proved to be the right fit for him.

“I wanted to make the move into first-team football but throughout September and October the right job didn’t come up,” Galea told the Haverhill Echo.

“I saw Haverhill were looking in November and after chatting with Peter Betts, Kayleigh Steed and Ali Shulver, it was the right role for me.”

Galea heaped praise on his players, especially since he took over at the club at the back of an 8-0 defeat.

“We’re further ahead than we thought we would be, but the challenge is to keep on going and not standings still.

It is all about working and continuing to improve as a group.”

The Maltese coach is already eyeing the next season, as he feels that the cup semi-finals and a potential final can help them prepare for the upcoming campaign.

Rovers return to Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division One North action on Sunday at home against Wootton Blue Cross Lionesses (2pm).

* Galea is keen for potential new players to take part in training, with sessions taking place at The New Croft every Wednesday (7.30pm-9pm).
