Rachid Chouhal struck gold while Antonella Chouhal took bronze as Malta left its mark at the European Veterans Indoor Championships that were held in Braga this week.
Rachid Chouhal was in action in the men’s long jump open for athletes in the 45 years category.
The veteran athlete leapt to six metres 41 centimetres to top comfortably the standings.
France’s Cyril Clemeneau took the silver medal with a best jump of 6.27 metres to finish just ahead of Daren Dods, of Britain, who finished just behind with 6.25 metres.
In the women’s hammer throw event, reserved for the 45 years age group, Antonella Chouhal managed to take a bronze medal when finishing third overall.
Antonella Chouhal managed a best throw of 35.92 metres to secure the lower spot on the podium.
Jana Capkova, of the Czech Republic, took the gold medal with a best throw of 44.73 metres. Britain’s Andrea Jenkins placed second overall when she managed 42.06 metres.
French athlete Virginie Konate was just outside the medals places with a best effort of 35.34 metres.
