Five-win haul for Charles Camilleri at Easter Meet held at Marsa Racetrack

Driven by Charles Camilleri, Vertige De Chenu won Sunday’s major event at the Marsa Racetrack. This was reserved for class Premier trotters on a long distance of 2640m and formed part of the 19th meeting of the year consisting of eight races all for trotters.

Easter Sunday’s card also included the three semi-finals from the San Franġisk Cup for class Copper trotters on a short distance of 2,140m.

From these semi-finals twelve horses made it to the final stage. Charles Camilleri ended as the best driver with five wins from eight races.

Sixteen trotters took part in the class Premier race.

Here Charles Camilleri put French Vertige De Chenu infront with a lap to go. This French trotter did not find any difficulty to seal its first win of the year after sustaining in the final metres the challenge of Dartagnan Sisu (Mario Fenech) and Gross Weight (Noel Baldacchino).

Baron De Majuag (George Grech) ended in fourth place. The winner clocked an average time of 1.15.7” per kilometer.

In the first class Copper semi-final, the early leader, General De L’Isac (Cliferty Calleja), was outsmarted by Gamin De Source (Charles Camilleri) midway through the final straight. General De L’Isac was eventually also disqualified.

Gibson Desert (Charles Degiorgio), Black Is Black (Andrew Farrugia) and Fanfan Cash (Gian Paul Camilleri) ended respectively in second, third and fourth place. For Camilleri’s trotter this was its first win of the season.

French Gaia Lucaxelo (Charles Camilleri) sealed its fifth win in a row in the second semifinal. This mare was unchallenged during the distance and past the finishing post first easily by a length and a half from Likearollingstone (Cliferty Calleja), Sharif America (Matthew Sammut) and Dakota Atout (Michael Mifsud). 

In the third and last Copper semi-final, Givre Nonantais (Cherise Farrugia) dahsed strongly from the outside during the last 300 metres and triumphed by half length from Grace De L’Isop (Rodney Gatt). Mundus L.N. (Brian Camilleri) and Gima Tege (Cliferty Calleja) were the last horses to make it to the final stage.

This was Givre Nonantais’s fourth win of the season.

Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Sunday and will also include the final from the prestigious Tazza l-Kbira. The first race should start at 1.30pm.
