Dylan Galea’s Haverhill Rovers Ladies rebrand name ahead of new campaign

Dylan Galea’s Haverhill Rovers Ladies have announced they will change names ahead of the 2022/2023 campaign. The England’s seventh-tier side will now be named Haverhill Rovers Women.

In an official statement on their website, the club described this rebrand as ‘as a sign of togetherness and unity.

Galea, who took over at the club back in November, heaped praise on the club’s efforts in changing the club’s name and refresh their image.

“Changing the club’s name from Haverhill Rovers Ladies to Haverhill Rovers Women will not only give the club a brand new, fresh image but also shows that we are looking at progressing our ethos and understanding of the women’s game and sport in general,” the Maltese coach said in a club’s statement.

“Making this move will be a statement of intent and shows that football is a level playing field for everyone and will help create a welcoming environment to anyone willing to join this ever improving football club. Moving the club in a forward direction and staying ahead of the curve is incredibly important and a name change only solidifies this”.

On this occasion the club is being reactive, but we will be doing our utmost to be proactive in the near and distant future. This game is an equal game, no matter what gender, race, religion or ability, EVERYBODY is welcome at our football club.”

Haverhill Rovers have just finished their seven-team Eastern Region Women’s Football League in fourth place after collecting 13 points in 12 games.

Sunderland announce rebrand too

Another team who will be going by a new name next season is Maria Farrugia’s Sunderland Ladies.

The team will now be named Sunderland Women, with the club’s twitter page already changing name to reflect the move.

In a statement the club said that the decision ‘has been taken in line with maintaining a contemporary, inclusive outlook as the club further develops into its new era in the women’s game’.

The statement added: “The rebrand also emphasises the ‘one-club’ mentality on Wearside, running parallel with the men’s first team, and aligns with competitions in which the Lasses compete, including the FA Women’s Championship and Women’s FA Cup.”

Farrugia’s side have also just finished their FA Women’s Championship season where they placed ninth in the 12-team second-tier.
