Former Valletta FC player Paul Gauci passes away

Valletta FC expressed their sorrow following the death of former player Paul Gauci.

Gauci, who was fondly known as Taċ-Ċorma, enjoyed a distinguished career with Valletta FC, winning all honours in Maltese football.

“Valletta Football Club express its sadness at the death of former player Paul Gauci (taċ-Ċorma),” the Premier League club said in a statement.

“Paul Gauci was born in Valletta on the 26th January 1941 and joined Gżira United in 1956 where he played for their Minors and first team for one season.

“He joined Valletta Football Club in 1957 and made his senior debut at the age of 16, During his career at either inside forward or on the wing, Paul won all honours including the Johnnie Walker Cup.

“Paul goes into the history books of the club as the first player to score a goal for the Lilywhites in a European competition when on Wednesday 14th October 1964 he managed to beat Real Zaragoza’s goalkeeper at La Romareda, of Zaragoza, in Spain.”
