Robert Portelli was elected as the new president of the Malta Rugby Football Union during the recently-held Annual General Meeting.
MRFU members convened on Saturday, August 27 for the meeting.
Outgoing general secretary Rhona Xerri addressed the meeting with a report detailing the important measures undertaken this season.
Acting President George Zammit Montebello presented his insights in keeping things together, especially during a difficult season due to Covid-19.
Mike Borg presented the audited accounts and also discussed challenges the union encountered owing to a low revenue generated due to a lack of sponsorship.
Following the presentation of reports, the new council was elected, with Portelli named as the MRFU president.
For almost a decade Portelli held the position of Falcons RFC, a club he founded.
Rhona Xerri will take the role of vice-president, Audrey Vella as general secretary, Rose Marie Zammit as treasurer, Martina Falzon as PRO and Andrew Camilleri as Business Development Manager.
The new council will also be supported by a number of sub-committees chaired by George Zammit Montebello, Chris Cachia, Albert Galea, and Tony Sammut.
