Mixed fortunes for Maltese darts players at WDF Europe

The Maltese national team darts players were in action in the third day of the WDF Europe 2022 as they were involved in the men’s and women’s doubles as well as the men’s singles.

Maltese duo Norbert Attard and Anthony Borg managed to qualify for the third round of the doubles as they eliminated Lee Savident and Darren Laxton 4-0.

In the following round, they were eliminated by Liam Meek and David Rogers 4-2.

Even Albert Scerri and John Agius made it to the third phase of the tournament after ousting Ilian Iliev and Galin Dimov 4-1.

But in the third round they were eliminated by Benjamin Reus and Simon Bak.

In the women’s doubles, Althea Ciantar and Joanne Borg were ousted in the second round after a 4-2 defeat to Loredana Brumetz and Barbara Osti.

Even Pauline Tonna and Margarita Scerri had to bow out of the competition in the first phase as they were beaten 4-0 by Kornelija Lusaite and Sandra Rimkeviciute.

In the men’s singles, Norbert Attard won 4-0 against Josh Richarlison but then lost to Artem Usyk 4-2.

Albert Scerri advanced to the third round after seeing off Xavier Lobbedey but was then defeated by Valters Melderis 4-2.

On the other hand, John Agius and Tony Borg lost their encounters against David Concannon and Tytus Kanik 4-0 and 4-2 respectively.
