Maya Cachia is on the brink of joining a Serie A club, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Maltese goalkeeper parted ways with Italian club Venezia, announcing her departure on her social media channels on Monday.
The 2004-born player is expected to put pen to paper on a deal with a Serie A club in the coming days, where she will be added to the first team as third choice goalkeeper while featuring for the U-19’s side in the Primavera league.
Cachia joined Venezia last season from Crotone, her first Italian club, but unfortunately did not make any senior appearance due to a long-term injury that kept her sidelined throughout the 2022/2023 campaign.
She returned to training in the closing stages of the season without making any competitive appearance for the senior team.
Cachia was part of the Malta women’s national team selection during June’s training camp under the guidance of coach Manuela Tesse.
Venezia FC finished their 2022/2023 season on a high after beating Res Roma to win the Coppa Italia – Serie C.
