Balzan FC have announced that they have reached an agreement with star forward Angel Torres to be released from the club by mutual consent.
The Premier League club immediately drafted in a replacement as they signed Nigerian winger Awosanja Dimenji.
The departure of Torres is surely a major loss for Balzan FC.
Torres has turned out to be a key player for Balzan in the past season as his outstanding performances for the club proved to be vital for the club to secure a return to European football this summer.
In fact, the 23-year-old made 24 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals, helping the club to finish fourth in the BOV Premier League and helping them to beat Hibernians in a play-off to secure their place in the UEFA Conference League this summer.
His performances have not gone down unnoticed by foreign clubs and earlier this summer, Balzan have turned down some lucrative offers for the player.
Torres remained at the club and helped them in their positive run in the UEFA Conference League which saw them knock out Slovenian giants Domzale before going out to Neman Grodno, of Belarus in the second qualifying round.
However, once the European adventure came to a close the player opened talks with the clubs to seek pastures new, and in a statement Balzan confirmed his departure.
“Balzan FC announces that Angel Torres has been released by the club by mutual agreement,” the club said in a statement.
“We wish Angel the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
Balzan immediately looked to find a replacement for the Colombian forward and have reached an agreement to sign winger Dimenji on loan from NK Domzale.
The 20-year-old winger this summer has agreed a loan move to the Slovenian side NK Kety Emmi Bistrica but has now been sent on loan with the Maltese Premier League club.
