Naxxar Lions have reached an agreement to sign Colombian striker Robinson Blandon from Challenge League side Swieqi United.

The Lions were keen to bolster their squad ahead of the second part of the season and have identified the 28-year-old striker as one of their chief targets this month.

For Blandon, this will be his third spell at Naxxar Lions as the Colombian forward had been brought over to Malta by the Lions in 2021 and after a short spell in Argentina at Platense he went on to play for Victoria Hotspurs.

After his stint in Gozo, he returned to Naxxar Lions at the start of the 2022-23 season and helped the team to win promotion to the top flight.

Last summer, Blandon moved to Swieqi United where he made seven appearances in the Challenge League and netted two goals.

Blandon is unlikely to be the only forward to leave Swieqi United this month, as the Challenge League club are in advanced talks with Premier League side Gudja United to sell Nigerian striker Ibrahim Salis.

Gudja United are keen to revamp their squad after a disappointing start to the season and are looking to bolster their forward line.

They have set their sights on Nigerian striker Salis, who has been on the books of Sweeqi United for the past two seasons.

Sources have told the Times of Malta that negotiations between the two clubs are at an advanced stage and it is hoped that an agreement is reached by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, Swieqi United have moved quickly to bring in attacking reinforcements when signing two familiar faces to Maltese football.

In fact, the Challenge League club have signed Argentine forward Federico Vasilchik and Brazilian forward Paulo Vyctor.

Vasilchik had a stint in Maltese football in January 2020 when he joined Premier League side Sliema Wanderers.

On the other hand, Vyctor was on the books of Premier League side Sirens last season where he made 18 appearances and scored five goals.

The Challenge League side has also acquired the services of former Sirens player Jean Borg on loan from Sliema Wanderers and Lenny Mattocks, a promising player, from Valletta FC.
