Birkirkara scored an important win in the Assikura Women’s League second round finale after beating Mġarr United 4-0.
This win kept the Stripes on top with a four-point lead above second-place Swieqi United who also won, clinching the three points against Lija Athletic.
Meanwhile, Hibernians scored 17 in a comfortable win against lowly Mtarfa while Valletta beat San Ġwann in a crucial game in bottom side of the standings.
The Assikura Women’s League returns next week with the third round commitments in which the championship will be divided in two four-team sections.

Birkirkara scored two goals in each half to dismantle Mġarr United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Veronique Mifsud opened the score before doubling Birkirkara’s lead just before half-time.
After the change of ends, Marta Grosso grabbed two goals to her name to wrap up the win.
Mġarr, on their part, have now slip to 11 points distant from Birkirkara with nine games left.
For this game, they were coached by Ryan Vella after the departure of coach Michael Mangion according to sources.

The Owls opened the score through Shona Zammit inside the opening eight minutes before Jessica Dimech scored on the 13th minute.
Zammit wrapped up the win on the 37th minute for Saviour Darmanin’s side.
