Bring in Mattia Ortoleva and Peter Borg
Sirens ASC have announced the signing of Russian player Daniil Merkulov for the upcoming season.
The St Paul’s Bay side have been working hard in recent weeks to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming competitions and this week they have confirmed the acquisition of Russian ace Merkulov.
Merkulov spent four seasons with PVK Jadran in the Montenegro league before he moved to Croatia where he plied his trade with VK Jug CO.
In September 2021, Merkulov joined Hungarian giants Ferencvaros with whom he won two league titles and the national cup on three occasions.
During his career he made 102 appearances in the LEN Champions League, scoring 152 goals.
Mekulov represented Russia 23 times in his career.
“Sirens ASC are proud to announce that an agreement has been reached with Ferencvaros star Daniil Merkulov to be our foreign player for the upcoming season,” the club said in a statement.
“We are sure Daniil will lift the team’s level and help the club fight for and secure its objectives this season.”
Apart from Mekulov, Sirens have also managed to bring in two Maltese players in his squad when they reached an agreement to sign Mattias Ortoleva and Peter Borg.
Added to that, former Sirens captain John Napier and Paul Micallef, have been added to the first-team technical staff.
Meanwhile, Sirens ASC have also confirmed their committee for the upcoming season.
Carmel Vella continues as president with John Farrugia acting as vice-president. Arthur Perici is the secretary while Kris Montfort will continue as treasurer.
The committee is also formed by five members, namely Sven Goran Xerri, Walter Degiorgio, Patrick Xuereb as well as John Napier and Paul Micallef who were co-opted.
