GSSE 2023 gold medalist made his first appearance since June’s Games.
Maltese athlete Jared Micallef made his return to track racing after competing in last weekend’s Queensland Athletics Championships in Brisbane.
Micallef took part in the 1500m event, clocking 3:49.03 as he finished second in the 17-man race.
This was his first competitive appearance having been sidelined with a long-term injury sustained during last June’s GSSE in Malta.
Micallef felt victim to an injury during the 4x400m and had to be carried out by an ambulance.
His incident came after he had triumphed in a spectacular 800m race while securing a bronze in the 1500m which earned Micallef the 2023 Athlete of the Year award, in November.
Last year, Micallef had improved the 800m national record with an extraordinary performance in Karlsruhe, Germany, with a time of 1:46.50.
