The EAP Malta International 2026 further strengthened its reputation as Malta’s leading international athletics meeting after delivering a record-breaking edition marked by high-level performances, unprecedented international participation and strong organisational execution despite challenging weather conditions.
Organised by Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club, the meeting forms part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger series and remains firmly established on the global athletics calendar.
The event attracts athletes seeking not only podium finishes but also valuable World Athletics ranking points that contribute towards qualification for major international championships.
This year’s edition highlighted the continued growth of the meeting, both in terms of quality and international reach, while reinforcing Malta’s standing as a host of world-ranking athletics competitions.
Athletes from 37 countries across all continents took part in the competition, making it the most internationally diverse edition to date. The meeting also recorded its highest-ever number of participants and foreign athletes.
The programme featured a packed schedule of track and field events, bringing together emerging young talent and experienced international competitors.
Among the standout achievements were a meeting score of 72,886 ranking points, currently placing the event 259th in the World Athletics Meetings Ranking List for 2026.
A total of four meeting records were broken, alongside two youth meeting records and one EAP Future (U-16) record. The competition also produced one local and one foreign national record, as well as an U-16 national record.
The event’s continued upward trajectory reflects years of sustained development, with organisers noting consistent increases in participation levels, performance standards and international engagement.
The organising committee expressed its gratitude to the volunteers, officials, coaches, parents, athletes, sponsors and media partners who contributed to the success of the event. Particular acknowledgement was given to SportMalta and the Malta Tourism Authority for their ongoing support.
Special recognition was also reserved for the EAP Malta Organising Committee, whose commitment and professionalism have helped drive the meeting’s growth despite limited resources.
Looking ahead, organisers aim to build on this year’s success and further strengthen the event’s position within the World Athletics calendar while enhancing Malta’s profile as a destination for international sport. They noted, however, that continued growth will require increased support and resources to match the event’s ambitions.
