Balzan set to appoint David Rogers as their new coach

Dave Rogers is expected to be named as the new Balzan FC coach.

Balzan FC are set to appoint English coach David Rogers as their new first-team coach, the Times of Malta can reveal.

The Premier League club are currently looking to bring in a new head coach after they parted ways with Oliver Spiteri after his contract expired at the end of last season.

Spiteri had been at the helm of the club for the past two seasons and managed to guide the Reds back to European football last summer.

However this season, Balzan struggled for consistency and ended up fighting for survival, avoiding the drop on the final day of the season.

Balzan president Anton Tagliaferro issued a statement had issued a statement a day after the team ended their league commitments to announce that the club would not retain the services of Spiteri and will announce the name of the new coach in due course.

Sources have told the Times of Malta, that Balzan FC have decided to appoint Rogers as their new first-team coach.

Rogers, who spent the majority of his playing career in the Irish League, where he donned the colours of Shelbourne, Derry City and St Pat’s among others, formed part of the Liverpool FC’s Academy where he worked on projects in India and South Korea.

In December 2022, Rogers was appointed as first-team coach of Irish club Finn Harps on a four-year deal.

He led the Irish side to 34 matches before stepping down from the job in September 2023 due to family reasons.
